Zion From on High

We spent Friday evening and Saturday morning in St. George after the CITES conference. As usual we stayed with our friends John and Sandy Cavanagh at their Bed and Breakfast. At least that is what they call it when we come to visit and they do provide a bed and an excellent breakfast.

We arrived at their home about 5 pm and after a short visit we were off to Cafe Rio for a light dinner. Then we returned to their house to visit and to watch the initial episode of Doc Martin. We also watched a one man show with Ellen Degeneres. Then it was off to bed.

John served us a full breakfast of omelet, potatoes, bacon, pancakes and juice then we were off to the Hurricane airport for a quick flight over Zion's National Park and St. George.

John got his pilots license back in 1972 after he got out of the navy and has flown ever since. As long as I have known him he has owned his own airplane. This was my first time up in the air with him.
The Hurricane airport is a very small, laid back place. They have a gate with a keypad but there is about a 3 foot tall fence around the place so it would be pretty easy to get into. John parked the car then did the checks on the plane and in about 5 minutes we were ready to go.
From Hurricane we flew North east over Zion's then back over Washington and St. George then returned to Hurricane. We were back at the house by 10:50 and on our way to our 11 am appointment with Susie's old colleague, Max Rose.
We had a nice visit with the Roses then stopped by a couple of other friends but they were not home. By 12:30 we were on our way back north so we could be home in time to go to dinner with our friends the Peterson's then home to watch the BYU vs. St. Mary's basketball game.
