Our collective journey home had an auspicious beginning. Kyle, Kevin, and I left Lafayette at 4:45 Wdnesday morning to make their 7 am flight in Indy. I dropped them off at the curb at the Indianapolis airport and headed home. I arrived back at Maren's at 7:05 am and was in bed by 7:10. About 7:20 we got a call from Kyle. They had missed their flight.
It took so long to check their luggage and then get through TSA that they arrived at the gate just as the plane was pulling away. They were put on standby and luckily (or unluckily) were on the 9:30 flight to Minneapolis.
At MSP Kevin was able to get the very last seat on his flight (38F) but Kyle was not so lucky. He had to rebook his flight that meant he had to stay in Minneapolis until New Years Day. He stayed at the Embassy Suites near the airport and visited the Mall of America on Thursday to get some clothes since his suitcase successfully made it to San Diego without him on Wednesday.
Susie and I flew home Thursday morning. We breezed through Delta baggage check (one advantage to being a Platinum Sky Miles customer). Then we went through TSA pre-check so we were at our gate by 5:40.
We were on time to Minneapolis but leaving there took some time. So many people tried to carry luggage onto the flight that it took them several minutes to get the excess baggage loaded into the plane. Then we had to wait 20 minutes to be de-iced. There was a head wind out of the west so we arrived in SLC 20 minutes late. By the time we picked up our luggage we had missed the 11:40 TRAX to connect with the Front Runner.
So we bought some lunch, walked around the airport and caught the 12:40 train home. We arrived in Provo at 2:15, tired but pleased to be home. Kevin met us at the station in Provo and we enjoyed an evening of relaxation and football.
