February 1st I was back on a plane this time headed for Naples, Florida. The purpose of my visit was to visit Syngenta's seeds research facility in Naples. They have a roof rat problem and I provided them with some experimental Talon soft paste bait to see how it would work.

They have tried several different types of bait and they couldn't get the rats to take anything. But the Syngenta soft bait was readily accepted. In fact the rats loved it to death. When I arrived they had not seen any roof rat activity for about two weeks and they were in the process of mopping up the last of the mice that were in the green houses. The trial was a big success.

I spent about an hour at the research station then I was back in the car headed back to Orlando. I decided to drive the back way up the middle of the state. I finally saw where all the citrus is grown in Florida.

For the past year Syngenta has been the target of takeover rumors by Monsanto, BASF, and ChemChina. Along the way we lost our CEO and the shareholders are upset. Wednesday morning we received the official announcement that our board had accepted the $43 billion offer from ChemChina. They will be the sole shareholder which should be an interesting change. It should take about a year to finalize this deal. In the mean time it's business as usual
