Edgemont South Stake FHE BBQ

This evening was the Edgemont South Stake annual Family Home Evening BBQ. Because the owner of JDawgs lives in our stake the event was catered by JDawgs complete with chips and watermelon. They even had small JDawgs for the kids.
I was responsible to bring two 5 gallon coolers of water so Susie and I arrived a little early to set up our water coolers. While we waited for things to get started we sat and visited with Don and Esther Messick. They are an older version of us. Someone suggested he call Esther for a date and it took him all summer to get up the nerve. I can relate to that. They remarried when they were in their 40's and have lived in the ward for over 35 years.
I didn't realize they got such a big crowd for this event as we didn't go last year. It was a very large crowd. When we left the parking lot at the stake center was completely full.
I think this is a great idea. With nearly everyone within the boundaries of the stake members of the church you tend to focus on just your ward and you don't get to know a lot of people from other wards. We've lived here 9 years and I'm just getting to know a few people from other wards.
