New Roof

The roof on our house has had issues since we first bought it 9 years ago. Next time I buy a house I will pay more attention to the roof. The first winter here we had leaking in the master bath caused by snow and ice melt and a damaged plywood panel. There were signs of past leaking on the kitchen ceiling as well.
The past two winters we've had leaking by the fireplace in the living room and around the skylight in the bathroom. It was time to do something about the roof now before it got worse. I figured the roof was over 20 years old so it was time for an upgrade.
I contracted with Cali Roofing Inc., a local company recommended by my friend Craig Cloward. The roofers arrived on Monday morning at 7 am just like they said they would. They brought a large crew and they were here from 7 am to 8:30 pm removing the roof and working on repairs. About 8 am a large dumpster was delivered and then during the day Intermountain Roofing made two deliveries of materials. It was impressive.
They replaced 7 pieces of plywood that were rotted and fixed the joints where new peaks had been added to the roof when the house was widened. The thing that really impressed me is how careful they were to clean up and prevent damage to the landscaping while they worked.
tarps spread along the back of the house while they removed shingles.
The roofer showed me where the original roofers had placed shingles over a pile of gravel and tar someone had used to fix a previous leak. I had been told that the previous roof was pretty marginal and they just confirmed my suspicions.
They did a great job of installing  new flashing around all the vents, skylights, and chimney. They also painted all the vents black to match the roof.
Finally they installed Ridge Vents along the top of the roof. This allows the attic to vent the hot air that builds up over the day. I've not noticed much of a difference during the day but the house cools off much better in the evening when the sun goes down.
I'm glad this is finally finished. Now we just have to wait for the next good rain storm to see how well they did.
