Last week we had quite a bit of rain. Before we left for our weekend getaway I had to go downstairs and put a fan in the back storage room because the carpet was very wet from water leaking into the basement.

We have had some minor leaking in the past but there is a new downspout from the new rain gutters that empties right behind the back storage room. The water from the roof was pooling next to the back of the house next to the back storage room and leaking into the basement.
I think the real culprit is the area behind the ductless split air conditioning unit in the back. I think it also leaks along where the stucco meets the stairs in the back.
Yesterday afternoon I went to the Home Depot and bought some clear roofing sealer and injected it into the crack where the stucco meets the cement. I also added an extender to the down spout so the water runs towards the flower bed and not back to the house. Hopefully these measures will help and we won't have wet carpet in the basement next time it rains.
