The Joys of Home Ownership

We mow our lawns on Wednesday evening so that the clippings can go out to the green recycling on Thursday and not have to sit and ferment all week. When Kevin finished mowing this week he came inside and explained that the back lawn was a bit uneven because the back wheel on the lawn mower had broken.

I went to look and sure enough it was broken and wobbling. The next morning I decided to see if I could order a replacement. It took a while but I found the right part for the right mower on line. Probably took much less time that running around town looking for parts would have. When I was ready to order I decided to go check to other wheel. It also was cracked and nearly ready to break so I ordered two wheels, $78 total.

The replacement wheels are supposed to arrive next week just in time to mow the lawns again. Kevin will get to make this repair as I will be in North Carolina.

This afternoon I returned from the store to the sound of water running in the kitchen. By running I mean the sound you would hear if the sink was overflowing onto the floor. I ran to the kitchen and found water pouring out of the cabinets under the sink. I looked inside and saw that the filter unit for the insta-hot water unit had ruptured and water was spraying everywhere. I rushed outside and turned off the water to the house (later on I realized I could have shut it off right under the sink but I would have gotten wet.)

I came back inside to mop up water only to find that much of the water had leaked through the kitchen floor into the basement. Fortunately the leaking was into the laundry room which has a vinyl floor and a floor drain.

Even luckier was that I had a replacement filter so I was able to remove the ruptured filter and replace it with a new one. Everything is now cleaned up, the floors have been moped, everything put away and just like new. I just ordered some replacement filters in case this happens again. Maybe I should change the filter annually like they suggest.
