Nebraska Week

This week I was in Nebraska for the Nebraska Pest Management Association meeting. It was a profitable trip in more than one way. Monday when I checked in for my flight I was asked if I would be willing to take a later flight for an $800 voucher. I jumped on that. It meant that I got to Lincoln Nebraska around 12:30 am rather than 6:30 pm. I also got upgraded to first class which was nice as well. The extra 6 hours in the SLC airport allowed me to get most of the way through the book Susie gave me titled "Deep, Down, Dark" the story of the Chilean miners trapped underground for 4 months in 2010.

I had a trade show booth and I was on the program. Wednesday morning I was the last speaker in the Public health breakout. I spoke on managing insecticide resistance in house flies. Attendance was actually better than I expected and I had a lot of questions about my presentation.

The conference ended Wednesday at noon and my flight wasn't until 6:30 so I had some time to kill. I decided to stop by the Winter Quarters visitor's center in Florence Nebraska just north of Omaha. I wanted to get a photo of the tent in the visitors center where our Relief Society President Kara Cottle used to hide while serving as a missionary at the center.
I got to watch the movie on the establishment of Winter Quarters and then visit the exhibits. I also spent a few minutes walking around the cemetery but it was a chilly winter day in Nebraska with a good breeze blowing. I was at the airport around 4 pm and had a productive couple of hours reading and taking care of e-mail.
