Between business travel, church service, scouting, and apartment repairs it is often hard to get the things I want to do done in a timely fashion. Last spring I killed a portion of the grass in my back yard with the intention of replanting it. I got about half of it planted last year and was intending to get the rest in this spring.

| If you look closely you can just see a hint of green in the newly planted area |
Last week on a whim I finally planted the rest of the grass that needed to go in. Never mind that we are in the midst of a brutal heat wave. With a new sprinkler controller I can have the area watered 8 times a day and in less than a week new grass is popping out of the ground.

| Note the new deer cage in the shaded part of the garden |
Saturday after playing tennis I decided to do something about my vegetable garden. It has been languishing from neglect. I built a new deer cage (to keep the deer from nibbling seedlings) and I finished installing the new low flow sprinkler heads. I planted Kale, Spinach, 3 kinds of lettuce, beets, merigolds, dianthus, and cucumbers. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for all that to sprout with the warm evening temperatures we are experiencing.
