Christmas 2015: Getting There

Tuesday December 2015 Susie and I left for Lafayette Indiana for the big 'Madsen' family Christmas (Sort of like Christmas Vacation but without cousin Eddy). It started raining during the night and was raining pretty hard when we got up at 4:30. As we started driving to the airport it started to snow. I was glad we had left 90 minutes before our flight. Luckily by the time we got to the freeway the snow had stopped and it was a quick drive to SLC.
We boarded our flight and waited for the passenger who had the window seat. Finally they closed the boarding door and we realized that we had an empty seat next to us. I fly 50 times a year and I've only had one empty seat next to me all year. When we left Detroit on the way to Indy we had another empty seat next to us. Go figure!

Empty seats on both legs of our trip.

We arrived in Lafayette at 6:30 pm to definitely non-winter weather. The grass was green and the temperature was about 45 degrees.
Kyle and Kevin flew in on Wednesday. Kyle's flight was an hour late from Chicago due to a tire change. I drove down to Indy and picked him up. It rained the entire way and on the north side of Indy it was raining so hard that traffic had slowed to about 30 mph.
We drove home and arrive around 6:30. We missed the Christmas eve-eve Chinese dinner but our Panda Express was waiting for us. At 10 pm Kyle and I were back in the car headed back to the Indianapolis airport to pick up Kevin. His flight was a little early and we picked him up at the curb and headed for the Waffle House.
In 2011 when we had Christmas in Indiana we arrived around 11 pm and after checking into our hotel Kyle, Kevin, and I walked from our hotel to the Waffle House for an early breakfast.

We arrived at the Waffle House around 11:30 and ordered our breakfasts. Ironically we sat in the same booth we used 4 years ago. The food was good and the service fast and we were back on the road by 12:15. We arrived at the Madsens around 1:15 am and went to bed. All 10 of us are now ready for Christmas.
